Thomas Beck PhD

Co-CEO and Group Chief Development & Technology Officer

Thomas’ major achievements of the past years include the promotion of new architectural concepts, the transformation of the technology departments into an agile organization and the introduction of a multi-product strategy. Additionally, Thomas holds the role of Group Chief Development & Technology Officer. He has over 30 years of IT experience in the financial industry and held various senior management positions at UniCredit Bank before joining Avaloq. Thomas holds a Ph.D. from the Technical University of Munich and has lectured in economics and financial mathematics at two leading German universities. He owns an equally smart dog who knows exactly which buttons to push to get a cookie from Thomas.

Martin Greweldinger

Co-CEO and Group Chief Product Officer

Martin is a natural innovator, able to translate market trends into award-winning technological products. Martin also holds the role of Group Chief Product Officer, in which he was driving Avaloq’s recently launched, new stand-alone, core-agnostic suite of digital wealth management platforms for financial institutions. He relies on more than 20 years of experience at top-tier financial institutions and consultancies in Europe and Asia. They include The Boston Consulting Group, Credit Suisse, Commerzbank and Dresdner Bank, where he focused on designing and shaping digital solutions with and for clients. He holds an MBA from IE Business School and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. Away from work, Martin enjoys exploring nature with his family and has a passion for supporting new ventures.

Martin Büchi PhD

Chief Architect

Martin is a hands-on software architect with a focus on simplicity, agility, and collaboration as well as system performance and automation. Since he joined Avaloq, he has been instrumental in many areas including the modularization of code and subsequent transition from Oracle and JEE to standalone digital products with microservices and public cloud for organizational and technical scalability. Martin brings along more than 20 years of business experience in addition to his academic achievements. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) as well as a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Åbo Akademi University in Finland. Martin is a keen skier as well as a competitive athlete participating in triathlons and marathons. Also, together with his wife of Peruvian-Japanese ancestry and their two sons he has lived in the USA and Australia.

Barry Frame

Chief Client Success Officer

Barry Frame joined Avaloq in 2018 and was appointed to the Avaloq Group Executive Board as Chief Customer Success & Sales Officer in 2021. Barry brings more than 17 years of experience covering financial institutions and asset managers across EMEA, including regulated services provision and material outsourcing arrangements. He is responsible for all client related initiatives and for driving sales success across all markets. Prior to joining Avaloq, Barry was in various client and sales leadership roles at companies such as Genpact, SEI Investments and Brown Brothers Harriman. Barry holds a bachelor’s degree in financial services from Bournemouth University and various industry accreditations such as the CFA’s Investment Management Certificate. Other topics which get the blood pumping are travel and outdoor pursuits with his young family and an appreciation for heavyweight boxing.

Hubert Gmünder PhD

General Counsel

Hubert is Avaloq’s Group General Counsel overseeing all legal, compliance, risk and security issues. Before to joining Avaloq, Hubert spent two years researching bankruptcy law, including a one year stay at Harvard Law School financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Prior to that, Hubert worked as an outside counsel in the Corporate / M&A department of the law firm Schellenberg Wittmer both in Zurich and Geneva. Hubert holds a master’s degree in law from the university of Lausanne and a Ph.D. from the university of Neuchâtel. He is admitted to the Swiss bar. Hubert is currently enrolled in the Executive MBA program at the University of St. Gallen. Away from work, he loves to spend time on the tennis court where his mind still thinks he has the fitness and skill level he used to have 20 years ago. In addition, he’s an avid skier, hiker and golfer and he loves to spend time with his family.

Uwe Krakau

Chief BPaaS Officer

Uwe brings along many years of experience in the financial services industry including five years at B-Source, which was acquired by Avaloq in 2011. He is knowledgeable across a variety of areas including BPaaS (Business Processes as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service), private and universal banking, merger and acquisitions, start-ups as well as fintechs. Prior to Avaloq, he mainly worked for DAX companies in Germany including debis Systemhaus, EADS and BASF. Uwe holds a degree in information science from the University of Konstanz, one in industrial engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen and he has completed an Executive Program at the Swiss Finance Institute. In his spare time, when Uwe isn’t on his own skis, he is an active supporter of junior athletes in golf.

Tobias Marbler

Chief Project Delivery Officer

Tobias is responsible for project delivery at Avaloq bringing its Products & Services to our clients. Prior to joining Avaloq, Tobias held various positions at Deutsche Bank both in London and Switzerland as well as consulting roles at McKinsey & Company and Arthur Andersen. He holds a master’s degree of business engineering from the University of Applied Science in Offenburg as well as an MBA from the University of St. Gallen. Away from work, he is an active athlete dabbling in endurance sports, skiing as well as various racket sports. Tobias is a keen cook and a big fan of digital gadgets.

Thomas Widmer

Chief Operating Officer

Thomas runs Avaloq’s operations and strategy. He is a strategic thinker and hands-on doer, translating visions and objectives into measurable results. Prior to joining Avaloq, Thomas was Partner at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where he supported and advised financial institutions on strategy and business model transformation, operating model and process optimization as well as the development of digital products and new businesses. Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from the University of Basel and a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of St. Gallen (HSG). In his spare time, Thomas enjoys exploring the Swiss Alps, savouring smoky Whiskey, and supporting his favourite soccer team.

Jesper Hybholt Sorensen

Chief Financial Officer

Jesper is Avaloq’s Chief Financial Officer, and he has a proven track record of advancing the strategic agenda in finance. Before joining Avaloq, Jesper has worked at IBM and DuPont as Controller and Head of FP&A and most recently as Vice President of Finance at Oracle. He is passionate about advanced analytics and is regularly featured as a keynote speaker at conferences and has co-authored two books; Implementing an Analytics Culture for Data Driven Decisions and AI-Enabled Analytics for Business. Jesper holds a master’s degree in Economics & Business Management from Aarhus University, Denmark, and is certified in Risk Management & Strategic Decision from Stanford University, USA. Outside of work, Jesper enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle with family and friends including hiking, mountain biking and skiing.

Jürg Hunziker

Senior Advisor to the Group Executive Board

Jürg is a proven international leader, with 30 years’ expertise in financial technology and banking. He joined Avaloq as Chief Markets Officer and Deputy CEO in 2016 before taking on the CEO role in 2018. Before this, he set up and then ran Sungard’s European division and was responsible for launching a number of capital market solutions. Since 2021, Jürg is focusing his time on interactions with existing and prospective clients of Avaloq as a Senior Advisor to the Group Executive Board. Away from work, he is an outdoor man, a keen cyclist, runner and hiker. He is also an active conservationist who supports charities concerned with sustainability.
